The Iowa Mennonite boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a win over visiting Winfield-Mt. Union 70-59 at Hillcrest Union on Tuesday night.
In a game heard on KCII, both team started slowly with WMU holding a 13-11 lead after the first quarter. The pace picked up in frame two as did IMS Senior Eli Gingerich who went for seven in the quarter. The game stood at 26 all at the halftime break. Out of the locker room, IMS hit another gear, opening the second stanza on a 12-3 run, IMS would build a lead as large as 13 in the third quarter and take an 11 point advantage into the final frame. In the fourth quarter the Wolves pounded away with Garret Baker, who put up 11 in the period, going over 900 points in his career, but IMS forced key turnovers and hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
On the night Iowa Mennonite was led by Eli Gingerich who posted a triple double with 21 points, 10 boards and 10 assists. Cole Hours and Jacob Schmeider both finished with 10. WMU got 18 points from Baker and a dozen from Zach Davis who tied Max Fricke for most three pointers made in program history with his 92nd career three point goal in the third quarter. With the win iMS is now 11-8 over, WMU falls to 12-7.
