For the second time in the 2015-16 season the West Liberty and Mid-Prairie boys basketball teams got together for an instant classic.

For the second time this year it was West Liberty that came out with the victory, this one a double overtime thriller that saw that Comets top the Hawks 55-52 in double overtime Tuesday in Wellman. Game one between these two schools saw both teams hold leads in the final two minutes and Spencer Feldman bank in a three point shot at the buzzer to give West Liberty a 41-40 win. Tuesday didn’t lack for drama either. Mid-Prairie held a 14-13 lead after a tightly contested first quarter. West Liberty would turn the see-saw in the other direction, taking a 25-22 lead into the halftime break. The Comets continued to lead throughout the third, holding a 35-28 advantage going to the fourth. In the final frame, Mid-Prairie went on a 10-4 run in the first six minutes to get within three points. The Golden Hawks were clutch down the stretch, tying the game at 43 with nine seconds left to force overtime.

In the first extra session, offense was tough to come by with the game tied at 48 with just two seconds remaining, West Liberty missed their final shot to win the game, sending the contest into a second overtime tied at 48. Defenses again dominated the extra frame with the Comets holding a slim 53-52 lead with 42 seconds left. Mid-Prairie was unable to score while West Liberty capitalized at the 15 second mark stretching their lead to 55-52. The Golden Hawks had one final chance to tie the game but were unable to knock down a three. On the night, Mid-Prairie was led by Ryan Cortum and Nathan Reed who each had 12. With the loss Mid-Prairie falls to 1-17 on the season.
