The City of Kalona has received its fiscal year 2014 to 2015 audit report. The report found a number of minor deficiencies for the city. Auditors found the city had not properly posted city council meeting minutes on one occasion. The state requires that minutes from council meetings be posted within 10 days.
Auditors also found Kalona did not have sufficient segregation of duties in the handling of the city financial records. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says, the city told auditors it is impossible to segregate duties due to the fact that the city has just two clerks. Auditors accepted this response. Schlabaugh continued saying small cities are often cited for minor deficiencies and the city was happy with the report.
