February is Black History Month and the Washington Public Library is hosting a special concert for the occasion. Debbie Stanton, director of the Washington Public Library, shares Donna DuBose of Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant will be singing and accompanied by Margie Runaas. There will also be a dramatic reading to wrap up the event. The noon-time concert will be held Thursday, February 11th, at the library.

The month long event was creating in 1976 under President Gerald Ford, so this is the 40th year. It had initially been a week-long effort that was first held in 1926 after being promoted by Carter G. Woodson, a Harvard-trained historian, according to AfricanAmericanHistoryMonth.gov.
