Two administrators, 20 teachers and two support staff in the Washington School District are taking early retirement packages at the end of the school year. At last night’s school board meeting the retirements were approved. School board president Eric Turner said it’s a big moment for the school district and for the individuals and wanted to share appreciation for all of their work over the years. Some of those retiring include Lincoln Elementary principal Dave Hoffman, Athletic Director Bryce Smeins, agriculture teacher Duane Van Winkle and High School choir director Mike Jewell.
This was done to save the district money, to help fight the budget cut due to declining enrollment. Superintendent Jeff Dicks explained they will post some of the job openings this week and consider transfers within the district before posting all of the available positions in the district.
