Lack of state funding, declining enrollment, and the Highland School District’s financial future will be the topics of discussion tonight in the Highland High School gym. Margaret Buckton from Iowa School Finance Information Services will speak about how schools in Iowa are governed by specific rules for generating funds and paying expenses. Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong says, his hope is this meeting helps community members understand the current financial dilemma the school is in. And hopes the community will help the school find savings in the budget.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Next week the school will host three discussion and brainstorming sessions of how the school can save money. For more from Armstrong listen to today’s In Touch with Southeast Iowa.
