The Iowa High School Athletic Association released district pairings for Class 3A and 4A, and the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (7-12 overall) was placed in the four-team Class 3A District 9 bracket.
The Demons’ playoff opener comes against the Clear Creek Amana Clippers (11-7 overall) at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids. The other semifinal pits the Cedar Rapids Xavier Saints (13-4 overall) against the Williamsburg Raiders (1-16 overall). Both semifinal matchups are scheduled for Monday, February 22, with the winners meeting in the district championship game Thursday, February 25, at Xavier High School.
With Tuesday’s 66-53 win over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (1-20 overall), Washington now sits with seven wins this season, the most since the 2011-12 campaign when they went 13-9. The Demon boys’ basketball team returns to the floor tomorrow night, hosting the Mount Pleasant Panthers (14-5 overall) in a Southeast Conference battle. Tip off of the varsity game is set for 7:45 p.m. at Washington High School.
