The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks continued their push with two athletes in action at the individual state wrestling tournament in Des Moines, during Friday’s day two session.
Levi Duwa has rolled through the 220lb bracket all the way to the state title match. Duwa is the second Golden Hawk ever to advance to an individual state championship match, the only other was Adam Greiner who did it twice in 1992 and 1993, winning consecutive state titles, the only state champion in school history.
Duwa won his quarterfinal match Friday over Ko Kieft of Sioux Center 7-3. Duwa, currently ranked sixth in the state with a 47-3 record, then defeated second ranked Kadon Hulett of Creston/Orient-Macksburg by fall in 5:57. He will match up tonight with Gavin Dinsdale of Webster City. Dinsdale is the no. 1 ranked wrestler at 220lbs according to thepredicament.com, with a 46-1 record this season. Dinsdale edged Hunter Gibson of ADM, Adel 3-2 in the semifinals to advance.
Mid-Prairie 113lber Duncan McCain was also in action Friday at the state tournament. McCain found himself in the consolation bracket, taking on Brady Fritz of South Tama. Fritz came away with a 5-4 decision to end McCain’s tournament run.
