The latest season for the Washington Demon bowling teams concluded Tuesday in Pella. The Demons competed in the Class 1A state qualifying meet at Excit-a-bowl against bowlers from Centerville, Fairfield, Pella Christian, and Sigourney.
The boys’ team fell 136 pins short of qualifying the team for the state tournament, finishing in second place with a score of 2,669. Sophomore Bailey Curtis bowled the Demons’ highest individual two-game score of 390, the second best overall score in the qualifying meet. Junior Collin Zear finished his season as the fourth best bowler in the event, dropping 377 pins. The Demon boys’ squad finished with five meet wins in 10 competitions, and won’t lose any members due to graduation.
The girls’ team bowled the last four meets of the season with three bowlers, finishing with 1,012 points and a fifth place finish. Sophomore AnnaMarie Walter had the eighth best performance in the girls’ field, sinking 265 pins in two-games. Washington’s only meet victory this season came against the Sigourney Savages, 1,528-1,099, in December. The girls’ bowling team loses Cheyenne Gillette and Erin Bailey to graduation.
