Area dairy farmers will have an opportunity learn about the cattle industry from experts at the annual Dairy Days event in Kalona on Wednesday. Topics to be covered will include benchmarks for transition cows, use of precision technology, and economics of organic dairy farming. Iowa State Extension Dairy Specialist Larry Tranel says around 50 percent of dairy farmers in Washington County use organic dairy methods. He adds, its important for area dairy farmers to come to the event as it can help farmers keep up on all of the major industry developments.
The event will have expert speakers from Iowa State University with Dr. Hugo Ramirez and Dr. Leo Timms. Registration for the event is $5 with the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce Building. Those with questions are encouraged to call the Washington County Extension and Outreach office at 319-653-4811.
