Special elections will take place tomorrow for citizens in Kalona and Ainsworth. Kalona will vote on whether or not $3.9 million in bonds will be issued for an addition to the community center. The project adds about 18,000 square feet of space to the current center including a walking and running track, basketball court and several community rooms. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Kalona Community Center. For the bond to pass, 60% of voters must say yes on the ballot. Sue Meeks, elections administrator for Washington County says she expects a large turnout in the Kalona election.
Ainsworth will fill a vacant seat on the city council. Three have filed papers to run in the election they include Douglas D. Donald, Dawn H. Stewart and Michael Eugene Sypherd, Sr. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at the Ainsworth Fire Station. Listen to KCII for live results from the Washington County Courthouse.
