Columbus Community Roundy Elementary students recently raised money for the University of Iowa Dance Marathon. The marathon involves college students getting sponsors to dance for 24 hours straight and the funds raised go to pediatric cancer and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital . Roundy planned a week of fun to encourage students and their families to donate to the cause. Monday was pajama day, Tuesday was bring your favorite snack day, Wednesday was favorite team day, and Thursday was dress like a teacher day. Friday was the day students really looked forward to because if the students met the goal of $500 some of the faculty had to kiss a goat. Students far surpassed the goal and raised $1,200. Principal Jenny Laughlin, second grade teacher Teresa Murry and forth grade teacher Sherri Orris all puckered up for the goat. The dance marathon went on to raise more than $2.4 million with all proceeds benefiting pediatric cancer and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
