The Highland Huskie girls track season began Thursday night at the Girls Demon Indoor meet hosted on the campus of Cornell College in Mt. Vernon.
The Huskies sent athletes to compete in six different events on the evening. The top finish on the night came from Bailey Harmston in the high jump as she cleared 4’8″ to finish in seventh place in a field of 25 participants. Three Huskies participated in the shotput, led by freshman Abbie Miller who placed 16th out of 42 throwers with a distance of 27’6″. Gigi Flachman was 40th and Kaylee Lerschen was 41st.
The Highland 4×400 relay team of Murphy Beinhard, Macey Thomann, Breanna Popham and Bailey Harmston was 18th in a field of 18 with their time of 5:22.23. In the 400 sophomore Sydney Black placed 19th out of 41 runners with a time of 1:12.41, right behind her was freshman Emilee Thomann in 20th with a time of 1:13.90. In the 60 meter dash, Kristy Thomann took 28th in 9.25 seconds out of 40 runners, while Melissa Goody was 39th in 10.55 seconds. The Huskies had two in the 200m dash led by Erin Simon in 34th out of 42 competing with her time of 32.31 seconds and Macey Thomann in 41st.
The Huskie girls track team will next be in action on March 21st for a meet at Columbus. The Highland boys track team will begin indoor competition tonight when they travel to Cornell College in Cedar Rapids for a 12 team meet.
