An early week roadtrip awaits the Washington Demon soccer teams this afternoon. The Demons will travel to Fort Madison for a Southeast Conference doubleheader against the Fort Madison Bloodhounds. This is the final regular season meeting between the schools.
The Demon girls’ soccer team (0-9 overall) will attempt to avenge an 8-1 loss to the Bloodhounds (2-10-1) at home last month. Washington’s lone goal came in the final seconds of the game when Fort Madison committed a hand ball infraction in their penalty box. Senior Stacy Ramirez capitalized with her first goal of the season, avoiding a shutout loss. Fort Madison looks to get back on the winning side of the ledger, dropping their last four matches.
Washington’s boys’ soccer team (2-6 overall) will also try to even the season series with Fort Madison, falling 7-2 in their initial meeting April 21. Fort Madison senior Braxton Williams scored a hat trick in their first meeting this season, and leads the entire state with 29 goals scored. Freshman Caleb Suchan leads Washington in goals scored, converting five goals this spring. Four of Suchan’s five goals have come via penalty kicks (4-4). Sophomore Thomas Zimmer has made a conference leading 98 saves in goal this spring.
Kickoff of today’s Southeast Conference doubleheader begins with the girls’ game at 5 p.m. and the boys’ will follow at 7 p.m. at Fort Madison High School.
