The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association released their latest set of rankings on Mother’s Day, and the Demon girls’ and boys’ golf teams were among the 10 best team’s in their respective classes.
The defending Class 4A champion Washington Demon girls’ golf team enters the conference tournament with the lowest nine hole average in the state, completing nine hole rounds in 177.6 strokes. The two teams directly behind Washington in nine hole average are Southeast Conference foes the Fairfield Trojans (188.8) and the Mount Pleasant Panthers (193.7). The Demons have a pair of golfers ranked in the top three in Class 4A in nine hole average, including Sarah Nacos with a state best average of 37.81 strokes. Senior Deanna Peiffer posted the third lowest average at 41.51 strokes.
The Demon boys’ golf team ranks as the eighth best in Class 3A in nine hole average, carding a collective score of 165.5. Two Washington players are among the top 40 nine hole average scores in the state. Senior Derek Anding completes nine holes of golf in 41.3 strokes, the 36th best in Class 3A. Junior Noah Enfield has the 40th best nine hole average, finishing nine holes of golf in 41.75 strokes.
Both teams will compete in their conference golf tournaments tomorrow. The Washington Golf and Country Club will host the girls’ 18 hole tournament while the league’s boys’ teams will vie for conference bragging rights at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison. Tee time for both events is set for 9 a.m.
