A Washington alum has been recognized as one of the best baseball players in the Midwest Conference for a second straight season. The league released the 14 names a part of their first team all-conference squad and Cornell sophomore Walker Breard found his among the honorees.

Breard, a 2014 graduate of Washington, is one of two underclassmen honored by the conference, joining Knox College sophomore Matt McCaffrey on the squad. Breard started every game for the Rams at first base or designated hitter, and his impact at the plate is undeniable. He finished the regular season with 54 hits, including nine doubles, 10 home runs, 51 runs batted in, and scored 36 runs.

Breard was named to the first team All-Midwest Conference baseball team his freshman year as well. His initial college baseball season saw his finish the season 10th in Division III baseball in slugging percentage with .777 and 17th in home runs with 10. The lefty led the Rams with 25 extra base hits and nine multiple RBI games, earning him a spot on the 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings All-Central Regional second team as well.

Breard and the Rams completed the 2016 season Friday with a pair of losses in the Midwest Conference baseball tournament, falling 12-2 to St. Norbert in the opener and 12-7 to Grinnell College in the elimination game. Cornell finishes their season with a 22-16 record, winning 12 games in the Midwest Conference South Division.
