Heavy rains fell across the area Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. According to trained weather spotters, about 3.5 inches of rain fell near Haskins and multiple rain gauges in Iowa City recorded between 4.6 and 4.9 inches of precipitation. Hail half an inch in diameter was reported in Riverside shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
At 3:30 a.m. at the Washington Municipal Airport wind gusts reached 30 miles per hour. The airport also recorded nearly half an inch of rain from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The rainfalls caused the Iowa River near Lone Tree to rise nearly two feet Wednesday morning, but it remained below flood stage.
