Emergency crews responded to a house fire west of Brighton Tuesday afternoon. At about 1:30 p.m. reports of a house fire at 1384 Highway 1/78, near Elm Avenue, were received. Smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the brick house. Due to the number of emergency crews and where the house was, the highway was closed and then reduced to one lane for a time. No injuries were reported.

Brighton Fire Department and QRS, Washington Fire Department, Richland Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, Alliant Energy and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel responded to the scene. The Red Cross was also notified of the incident.
