WACO soon to be freshman Maysan Lee recently participated in the National Junior High Rodeo Finals in Lebanon, Tennessee. Competing in the barrel racing event, she considered her first run sub-par. However, she ran much faster in her second attempt and placed 28th in the nation. Lee said she had the tightest barrels she could have, and while she was proud of how her horse Petey performed, he simply wasn’t as fast as a lot of the other horses in the competition.
Looking ahead, she hopes to compete in the high school finals next year in Wyoming. She’s looking to add goat tying, breakaway roping, and team roping in addition to barrel racing, and feels most confident in her team roping ability. She’s not sure if she’ll take part in this weekend’s Wapello Pro Rodeo, and likely won’t know until Saturday, though she will be taking part in the Washington County Fair Rodeo next Tuesday.
