The Mid-Prairie boys basketball program has named Daren Lambert as the new head coach.
Lambert inherits the program from Mid-Prairie alum Chris Kern, who served as head coach of the Golden Hawks for three seasons after more than two decades as an assistant. Lambert, a native of Dennison, Iowa, attended the University of Iowa after graduating from Dennison High School. Following his time at Iowa, Lambert relocated with his wife to Kansas City and began his teaching and coaching career in the Raytown South School District where he was a football and basketball coach for five years.
Specific to basketball, Lambert credits sports with teaching him life lessons growing up. His step father was his football and basketball coach at Dennison. Lambert served as a volunteer on the Raytown coaching staff for the football and basketball programs at both the middle school and high school levels. He was an assistant for the basketball program during their run to the Missouri basketball tournament.
After taking over the program, Lambert has worked with the players during camp, met with the players at the end of the school year and supervised players in the weight room. Lambert will also be a member of the Golden Hawk football coaching staff this fall.
