Familiar sounds like clucking and crowing have returned to the Washington County Fair after a year hiatus. Last year, a ban was placed on birds at fairs and swap meets due to the avian influenza. In Iowa, over 31 million birds were affected in 2015 including chickens and turkeys. Vice President of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Cathann Kress visited the Washington County Fair Monday and tells KCII News it’s nice to have poultry back and having the ban was a learning experience for students in regards to biohazards.
Roosters, hens, turkeys, ducks, and geese can all be seen this week at the Washington County Fair. Join the KCII Big Red Radio each day on the fairgrounds.
