Recent Mid-Prairie graduate Allyson Wertz has been honored with the Ann Griffel Award Scholarship.
This scholarship, established in 1963, is named after Griffel who initiated the scholarship was a proponent of women’s golf in the state and started many women’s tournaments that are still played annually. The award is given to five women each year who have an active interest in golf. Wertz is a 2016 graduate of Mid-Prairie High School.
She finished her career is a Golden Hawk as a 35 time team medalist and 19 time meet medalist. She was a four time first team all conference selection, a 2015 first team All-District selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, a two time All-State selection by the Iowa Golf Coaches Association, a 2016 Des Moines Register All Iowa Golf team selection, a member of the 2013 Cedar Valley Conference championship team, a member of the 2014 sixth place state tournament team, finished 24th overall as an individual at the 2014 class 3A state golf tournament and set the Mid-Prairie girls golf nine and 18 hole scoring records at the 2016 Class 3A regional meet. Wertz will continue her education and golf career next year as a student at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
