Today is the final day to get your name on the special election ballot for the vacant Washington City Council seat and as of Thursday afternoon two people have filed to do so. Merle Hagie and Steven Gault’s names will appear on the September 20th ballot.

Last week citizens presented a petition to the Washington City Council calling for a special election to be held to fill the Ward 2 seat that was vacated by Russ Zieglowsky. The council had planned on appointing a resident of the ward to fill the vacancy until the term ends December of 2017.

Hagie has previously served on the Washington City Council, his most recent term ended in 2013 in one of the two at-large council positions.
