At Thursday’s special meeting of the Riverside City Council, it was expected that Mayor Allen Schneider would resign from office. However, at the meeting Schneider said while his intent was to resign for a few different reasons (though he didn’t elaborate on the details), he’s had some feedback and would like to reconsider. He gave the council the option to either accept the resignation he had prepared, or to allow him 30 days of personal leave to reevaluate his decision.
A motion was made by council member Ralph Schnoebelen and seconded by Tom Sexton to not accept Schneider’s resignation, and instead give him the desired 30 day personal leave. Sexton said, “I hope before the 30 days are up, we have a full discussion with staff on proper chain-of-command in the town of Riverside, so this does not happen to anyone else again.” The motion carried 4-0, and Schneider excused himself immediately to begin the personal leave. In his absence, Schnoebelen will take on the mayor’s responsibilities.
