After beginning the season with a pair of tournaments, the Highland Huskies volleyball team (4-4 overall) starts their conference schedule tonight.. The Huskies welcome the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (3-2 overall) to Highland High School for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference match. The teams met three times on the court last fall with Highland winning two of the meetings.

Highland has a pair of athletes who’ve recorded 20 or more kills in their first eight matches of the season. Junior Bailey Harmston tops the Huskies’ roster with 27 kills. Sophomore Aly Stokes ranks second on the squad with 24 kills. Facilitating the Huskies offense is two players with 25 or more assists. Junior Murphy Beinhart leads Highland with 40 assists, while senior Amy Schnoebelen has facilitated on 28 points so far.

The W-MU Wolves are coming off a third place finish at this past weekend’s West Branch volleyball tournament. The Wolves’ have shown a balanced offense thus far, having four players with 12 or more kills. Junior Pearl Krieger-Coble tops the W-MU lineup with 17 kills. Junior Lexee Hartsock sits second on the team in kills with 16. Seniors Hannah Buffington and Ashley Kruse enter tonight’s match with 12 kills a piece. Aiding the Wolves’ offense is a pair of upperclassmen with 20 or more assists. Junior Lauren Jamison is the Wolves’ leader with 35, while senior Kayla Coberley has facilitated on 22 points.

A pair of seniors lead the Huskies and Wolves in digs. Winfield-Mount Union’s Sophie Kongable leads the SEISC with 65 digs, while Highland’s Kelsey Hora has dug up 59 balls, ranking her second in the league.

First serve of the varsity match between Highland and Winfield-Mount Union is set for 7 p.m. at Highland High School.
