The chemistry between Washington juniors Ryan Reighard and Javionn Willis was on display Friday night at Case Field. As heard on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com., the No. 2 Washington Demon football team (2-0 overall) hosted the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (1-1 overall) in a non-district showdown. The Demons racked up a school-record 664 yards of total offense, assisting Washington to a 49-14 victory.

Reighard was a part of all seven touchdowns for Washington, throwing four touchdowns and running in three more. He accounted for 554 yards of total offense, rushing for a program best 296 yards and throwing for an additional 258 yards. Willis set records for receptions (11) and touchdown (four).

Mid-Prairie junior Karson Gingerich completed nearly 70 percent of his passes (9-13), recording 135 yards and a touchdown. Senior Levi Duwa caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Senior Ricky Vargas rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Washington’s victory pushed their record to 2-0 overall, while the loss drops Mid-Prairie to 1-1 overall. Washington enters Class 3A District 5 competition this week, traveling to Mount Pleasant for a Southeast Conference clash versus the Mount Pleasant Panthers (1-1 overall). Mid-Prairie is hosting the West Liberty Comets (0-2 overall) in the Class 2A District 5 opener.
