Last year, 414 Iowans died by suicide. This week is Suicide Prevention Week. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, suicide is the second leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year-olds and those ages 25 to 44. IDPH advises there are often warning signs including statements of feeling hopeless or worthless, suffering a recent loss of a family member or friend, withdrawing from activities, a sudden decline in grades at school or work performance, and talking about suicide or making a plan.
