Thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, flooding, snow and ice are all part of weather in Iowa. This month is National Preparedness Month and Washington and Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith advises people to keep an eye on the weather. He recommends people check the forecast each morning before leaving the house so you know what to expect, whether you need an umbrella or sunscreen. It’s advised to have a plan for shelter, know where you and your family will go before an emergency occurs.
