Corn stalk rot and stress on soybeans due to excessive moisture was reported in Iowa following last week’s heavy rains according to the weekly Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report. The week was Iowa’s wettest of the year and limited fieldwork to 3.7 days. Across the state corn is rated at 13% fair, 58% good and 25% excellent while soybeans are 14% fair, 58% good and 24% excellent.
In southeast Iowa 40% of corn is mature, nine points ahead of the five-year average. Soybeans in our corner of the state are 16% dropping leaves, ahead of the 14% of the five-year average.
