The City of Washington and Washington County are working to establish operations for the county recycling center and to award a bid to one of four companies. Both the Washington County Board of Supervisors and the Washington City Council discussed the bids at their respective meetings Tuesday. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the bids look nice for the city, with three in the ballpark from $1,500 under budget to $2,000 over what was budgeted. He added they have to lean on the county, since most of the cost is their’s. The total bids ranged from $168,000 to $240,000.
Supervisor Jack Seward said they need to consider the lowest responsible bid, as their budget analysis expected the cost to be about $216,000 per year. The county will be serving as a landlord in the agreement, while the company is the tenant. Neither board approved a bid Tuesday, and will consider the bids at a later meeting.
