Naomi Dameron of Brighton was recently diagnosed with four different kinds of cancer, and the town will rally around her tomorrow for the 1st Annual Making Milestones Ride for Naomi. The idea for the event came from the owner of CaManders Bar in Brighton, Mandy Northup, who is a friend of Naomi. Northup contacted Naomi’s children, David McArtor and Minetta Hesseltine, and the three of them came up with the idea for the fundraiser. The ride will start at CaManders, and all types of vehicles are welcome to participate and play a creative game of poker. Northup said each participant will try to get the best hand by drawing a card at each stop along the ride. Once back in Brighton, whoever has the best hand will get a portion of the pot, with the rest going towards Naomi’s health care.

Each participant in the ride can purchase one hand for $20, or two hands for $30. The stops along the way include bars in Richland, Keota, Wellman, Washington, and Coppock before heading back to Brighton. All the stops are among Naomi’s favorite places, and Northup says they’ve each shown a great deal of support for the cause. In addition to the poker game, there will be a raffle, auction, and a free meal provided. Registration for the ride is from 10-11 a.m. tomorrow, and attendees will be back in Brighton by 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to not drink and drive.
