A train and a car collided in Columbus Junction Friday evening. According to the Columbus Junction Police Department, at 6:44 p.m. the collision was reported on Second Street. The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro struck by the train was driven by 51-year-old Tang Naw of Columbus Junction. The Naw vehicle had stopped at the railroad crossing, but was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, which pushed the Camaro onto the tracks. The Malibu was driven by 35-year-old Lai Kingbual of Columbus Junction.

According to the police department, initial reports indicate Naw exited the car once it was struck from behind, but when the train was coming eastbound she attempted to get back into the Camaro. When the Canadian Pacific train struck, the Camaro and Naw ended up in the ditch on the east side of the road. Naw and Kingbual were transported to the University of Iowa hospital.

Charges are pending completion of the investigation. The Columbus Junction Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Louisa County Sheriff’s Department, Canadian Pacific Railway Police, Louisa County Ambulance, and Columbus Junction Fire and Rescue.
