The Washington Demon basketball teams closed the first half of their season at home in a non-conference doubleheader versus the Marion Indians. As heard live on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Indians sent the Demons into the holiday break with a pair of losses.
The boys’ game featured five lead changes and was tied four times as Marion outlasted Washington, 66-62. Washington held a 38-30 lead midway through the third quarter.Marion converted 21 of their 25 free throw attempts including 10 of 12 in the final quarter. Tanner Coleman led Washington with 13 points while Mason Rich added 11 points off the bench. The loss drops the Demons’ record to 1-4 overall.
The No. 2 Marion Indians girls basketball team (9-0) forced the Demons (1-6) into 28 turnovers and ran away with a 64-24 victory. Sarah Nacos scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the first half. Kayba Laube led Marion with 18 points. The loss sinks Washington’s record to 1-6 overall.
