The Mid-Prairie School District has been the home of Superintendent Mark Schneider for the last 16 years, and that will continue for another year. At their most recent meeting, the Mid-Prairie School Board offered Schneider a contract for next year, and he accepted. Schneider signs a one year contract every year to stay with Mid-Prairie. He explains, “I just have a year-to-year contract. That’s the way I wanted to do things my very first year I was hired at Mid-Prairie. Any year, the board can say, ‘Hey, Schneider, we’re tired of you,’ and I can say, ‘Hey, board, I’m tired of you.’ But to be serious, that has been a process that has worked very well for me. I think it’s worked very well for the Mid-Prairie School Board, and I think it’s worked very well for the Mid-Prairie community.”
While Schneider feels this type of arrangement may not work well at other districts, he believes it’s worked well for them and kept the relationship between himself and the board honest and open. He says neither side is afraid to share or address concerns with the other, which he believes can be an issue with multi-year contracts. Schneider is looking forward to continuing his partnership with Mid-Prairie, but as always, he will take it one year at a time.
