Agriculture and farmland are the common themes in two plays written by Iowa’s Poet Laureate that will be on the stage in Washington tomorrow. Mary Swander has written 13 books and is part of a LET’s Center program Sunday afternoon. Lorraine Williams with the LET’s Center for the Creative and Healing Arts shares one play is called “Map of My Kingdom” which deals with inheritance and what happens to farmland when a family passes it on to someone who no longer wishes to farm. The second is called Vang and it is about recent immigrant farmers. Appetizers will be available in the lobby between the two plays.
These plays, “Map of My Kingdom” and “Vang,” have been performed in New York City, Chicago, and throughout the Midwest. Tickets can be purchased for $15 in advance at LETScenter.org. Performances begin at 3 p.m. at the Washington Community Center.
