On Friday the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams hosted the North Cedar Knights in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Golden Hawk girls won their sixth in a row, blasting the Knights 50-29. Mid-Prairie jumped out early, starting the game on a 15-4 run that lasted the entire first period. The Golden Hawks led 26-12 at the halftime break. In the second half, Mid-Prairie pushed their lead over 20 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Golden Hawks were led by Ireland Hostetler and her second straight double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. With the win the Hawks are now 7-3 on the year.
In the nightcap, North Cedar salvaged a sweep, topping the Golden Hawk boys 63-53. Mid-Prairie led 14-9 after one quarter and 30-24 at the half. The Knights made their move in the third, outscoring the Hawks 19-9 in the frame to erase the deficit and take a 43-39 lead into the fourth quarter. North Cedar continued to pour it on in the final period, outscoring Mid-Prairie 20-14 to take the win. The Golden Hawks were led by Caleb Statler’s 19 points, Brad Tornow added 11. Mid-Prairie is now 3-7 on the year.
