The No. 15 ranked Golden Hawk girls basketball team lost its first game in 2017, falling at No. 1 Iowa City Regina 77-63 Tuesday.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, Mid-Prairie started the game with a 6-2 lead, but Regina went on a 22-3 run that spanned the first and second quarters to go up by as many as 14 in the first half. Mid-Prairie rallied late in the second to cut that margin to six and take momentum into the halftime break. In the third quarter Alex Wiese for Regina and Addie Rath of Mid-Prairie had their own personal dual scoring 15 and 13 in the frame respectively but Regina still led 55-43 going to the fourth. In the final quarter, the Hawks would get as close as nine before the Regals used a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. Rath led the Golden Hawks with 24 points, Ireland Hostetler had 15 and Ali Butters finished with 13. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 10-4 on the year.
