The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team met Iowa City Regina Tuesday on the road with the Regals taking a 67-60 win.
Mid-Prairie started the game hot from the floor, using a 9-0 run to take a 15-6 first quarter lead. Regina chipped into that advantage and after one the Hawks were up 19-17. In the second quarter the Regals took their first advantage, exploding for 25 points in the quarter, they led by as many as eight in the frame and took a 42-36 lead into the locker room. Mid-Prairie responded in the third quarter going on a 20-7 run that lasted nearly the entire period, it was the Golden Hawks who took a 56-52 lead into the fourth. With three minutes remaining in the game and Mid-Prairie clinging to a 58-56 lead, the Regals got back to back three point goals from Masen Miller and back to back jumpers from Jake Phillips for a quick 8-0 run. Mid-Prairie couldn’t find an answer turning the ball over five straight times in the same stretch to seal their fate. In the loss Mid-Prairie was led by Caleb Statler with 12 points, Brad Tornow and Dominick Pickard each had 10. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 4-11 on the season.
