Homecoming festivities have taken place all week at Keota High School and will continue tonight with a pair of South Iowa Cedar League games against the Tri-County Trojans. Due to Keota’s football sharing agreement with Sigourney, the district decided several years ago to hold homecoming week during the basketball season. Six Keota basketball players are part of this year’s homecoming court, including Erin Chalupa, Avery Conrad, Raigan Sprouse, Cole Stout, Jace Uphold, and Jacob Wickenkamp. The court also includes Mallory Woltering, Anthony Campbell, Bianca Cardona, and Baylei McClelland.
The Keota boys’ basketball team (12-3) avenged a conference loss Tuesday in Belle Plaine, edging the Plainsmen, 66-65. Belle Plaine won the first meeting, 73-54, on November 29. Stout scored a team-high 21 points off seven made three-point baskets. Wickenkamp added 15 points and seven assists in the victory. Four Keota players are averaging more than 11 points per game including Hunter Wilson (14.1), Wickenkamp (12.4), Stout (12.1), and Conrad (11.2). Tri-County snapped a nine-game losing streak Tuesday by defeating the English Valleys Bears (1-14), 62-42. Keota defeated Tri-County, 85-44, on December 2.
The Eagles girls’ basketball team (0-16) is searching for their first win of the season. They’re coming off a 43-15 setback in Belle Plaine Tuesday.
