A season-high scoring effort helped the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (5-9) win Thursday night. As heard live on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons welcomed the Keota Eagles (16-4) to Washington High School for a non-conference contest. Washington outscored Keota 35-19 in the first half on their way to a 69-40 victory.
It marked the fourth game this season Washington scored more than 60 points. Twelve Washington players scored in the victory. Mason Rich scored a game-high 17 points, while Jaivonn Willis added 14. Washington has won back-to-back games for the first time this season, improving their record to 5-9 overall.
Keota, who averages a state-best 9.5 three-point shots made per game, made four second half treys on their way to a season-low offensive output. Avery Conrad led the Eagles with 14 points, Hunter Wilson added 11. The loss snaps the Eagles five-game winning streak, bringing their record to 16-4 overall.
The Washington basketball teams return to the floor tonight hosting the Fort Madison Bloodhounds in a Southeast Conference doubleheader in the school’s annual Slam Dunk Cancer event. The Demon basketball squads will auction off signed basketballs and people will bid for a chance to shave the heads of volunteers. KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage of the games on FM 106.1 starting with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5:45 p.m. The games will also stream live on KCIIRadio.com and on the KCII mobile app.
