The number of emergency calls to the Washington County Communications Center rose from 2015 to 2016. Cara Sorrells, E911 director, says in 2015 they received 11,101 calls and last year it increased to 11,833, a difference of 732. The communications budget uses a five-year rolling average of calls. Approximatley 50% of the calls are from the City of Washington, 24.5% are from rural Washington County, 8.6% from Kalona, 5.6% from Wellman, 5.3% from Riverside, 3.1% from Brighton, 1.7% from Ainsworth and less than a percent each from Crawfordsville and West Chester.
