The Washington, Mid-Prairie, Columbus, Winfield-Mt. Union, and Lone Tree boys track teams face off tonight in Wapello.
Mid-Prairie has already experienced early season success by being in the top three at both of their meets. They last were in action Thursday night at the Demon Relays where they placed second. The Golden Hawks grabbed five event championships including two-time winner Terrhyn Jacoby who won the 100m and 200m dash. Cary Schaefer won the 400m, Peyton Miller won the 400 hurdles, and rounding out the top finishes was Levi Duwa taking the shot put title.
Washington seeks revenge on the Golden Hawks, looking to improve off their fourth place finish at the Demon Relays. Highlighting the action for the Demons was the 800-sprint medley team who posted a runner-up finish. This team consists of Sawyer Wisler, Chris Tapia, Kyle Schindler, and Ethan Hunt. Other runner-up finishes include Caleb Bex in the 100 hurdles and the 4×200 team, consisting of Mario Tapia, Tanner Murphy, Wisler, and Schindler.
Columbus placed seventh overall at the Demon Relays paced by a fifth place finish by Jaime Villegas in the 400m dash. Winfield-Mt. Union made noise in the 4×100 where they placed third. That team consists of Bryant Holtkamp, Carter Hinkle, Collin Hinkle, and John Day. Lone Tree placed fourth Thursday at their home meet highlighted by Niko Gosnell who won the 110 hurdles and the high jump. Other first place finishes for the Lions included Brock Smith in the 400 hurdles, Jovonte Squiers in the long jump, and Squiers, Gosnell, Smith, and Jeff Hudson winning the shuttle hurdle relay.
Other schools attending the 13-team meet include West Branch, Central Lee, Danville, Mediapolis, West Burlington Notre Dame, West Liberty, Wilton, and the host Indians.
Events get started at 4:30 p.m. tonight at Wapello High School.
