The Columbus Community boys’ and girls’ soccer teams host Mediapolis tonight for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown.
The Wildcat boys look to get back in the win column and rebound from a tough 2-1 loss at the hands of Iowa Mennonite School on Friday night. The loss snapped the Wildcats’ four-game win streak and puts them at second in the SEISC-North division with a record of 6-4. Eric Cantarero continued his successful season by scoring the lone goal for the Wildcats and adds to his conference leading 12 goals on the year. Mediapolis comes into the contest with a record of 4-8 and are led by Caleb Duffy with seven goals.
After an idle week for the Columbus girls, they seek their first win of the season. Goalie Liana Sweezer leads the Wildcats as she is atop of the conference in saves with 85. Bailey Stroud paces Columbus offensively by posting four goals on the season, good enough for second in the conference. Mediapolis (4-4) is led by Fernanda Brown with six goals on the season.
The girls’ game gets started at 5 p.m. tonight with the boys to follow at Columbus Community High School.
