A former Henry County deputy has filed a lawsuit against the county and Henry County Sheriff Richard McNamee.

The plaintiff Brandon Marquardt filed the suit through his attorney Curtis Dial in Lee County on May 2. Marquardt was a hired deputy from 2011 until March 20 when he resigned. Last October Marquardt informed his supervisors of a fellow deputy being involved in allegedly illegal activities and interfering in investigations. Marquardt was placed on administrative leave after making these allegations. Marquardt also claims that he was subjected to harassment from the Henry County Sheriff and others in the department. The suit states the sheriff’s office violated the whistleblower statute, and Marquardt is requesting a jury trial, and for the defendant to compensate for past, present, and future income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. A court date hasn’t been set.
