Corn dogs, fresh clementines, pork tenderloin sandwiches, watermelon, and baked potatoes are just a few of the items on next week’s menu for free lunches in Washington.
Food services director of the Washington School District Yota Giardino-Miller says anyone aged 1-18 can eat for free as part of the free and reduced lunch program, and the meals are open to anyone in the community not only Washington students. Children visiting town for the summer can also get the free lunch. Any adults are welcome to dine for a fee of $3.50 per lunch. The meals include the four food components, milk, unlimited fruits and vegetables, and a salad bar. She says some people come in, eat, and quickly get going, while others use the time to socialize. This year the lunch program will be offered from June 5th to August 11th at Stewart and Lincoln Elementary Schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday each week.
