The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team improved their record to 5-0 Thursday with an 8-3 win over the Monticello Panthers in Wellman.

Each team found the scoreboard with a single run in the first inning. The Golden Hawks continued with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to go up 3-1, and extended that lead further with two more in the fourth. Monticello made a push in the top half of the sixth with two runs to get within 5-3 but Mid-Prairie scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for insurance and held on for the win. The Golden Hawks are back on the diamond tonight when they travel to Center Point-Urbana.
