Southeast Iowa planting is on par with the state’s rate of 97% of corn planted and 77% of soybeans planted.
According to the recent Crop Progress and Condition report from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, wet conditions last week kept farmers from finishing up planting as there were only 2.7 days suitable for fieldwork. There were scattered reports of corn turning yellow and replanting in areas with standing water. In southeast Iowa 86% of corn has emerged, ahead of the five-year average of 81%. Soybeans are slightly behind the five-year average of 43% emerged, locally 40% of soybeans have emerged.
