The YMCA of Washington County received a $3.5 million grant in November of 2015 from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, it’s largest in foundation history, and now an extension request will be considered.
The Washington County Riverboat Foundation will meet in regular session Wednesday evening and one item on the agenda is discussion and possible action on Y extension request. Since 2015, the YMCA has been raising funds but was unsuccessful in passing a bond referendum to help reach the fund goal.
Last month a new building design was announced for the proposed YMCA on West 5th Street in Washington. The new design includes three phases. The first phase costs $9 million and includes a full basketball court with spectator seating, weight rooms, locker rooms, a walking track and meeting space. Phase two would be added on later for an additional $3.5 million and includes a six-lane pool. A possible addition later would be considered phase three. The YMCA is also seeking an $800,000 contribution from Enhance Iowa.
The public WCRF meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Washington Public Library.
