The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team split their first two games of the week falling to Cardinal of Eldon on the road Monday 4-3 and beating up on the Danville Bears Tuesday 12-2.

In the loss to Cardinal, the Comets scored once in the bottom of the first. IMS would tie it with a run in the third only for Cardinal to score in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead right back. Cardinal made it 3-1 with another in the fourth and IMS tied the game at three with a pair of tallies in the fifth. The game stayed tied until the seventh when the Comets got the walk off run they needed to take the win. Noah Bruns was one for three at the plate with a pair of RBI for IMS, Drake Brezina was two for three with two runs scored. Caleb Yoder took the loss on the hill going six and two thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

In their mercy rule win over Danville Tuesday, it was actually the Bears that took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. IMS responded with four in the bottom half to take a lead they would not give up the rest of the night. IMS tacked on with a pair in the second, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the win. IMS pounded out 13 hits at the plate, including a four for four, two RBI night for Reggie Borntrager. Cole Yoder collected the win on the hill, going five innings, surrendering two runs on six hits and striking out six. With the split IMS is now 7-6 on the year and will travel to Highland Thursday night.
