The Washington Demons grabbed bragging rights on the softball diamond Wednesday night in Kalona, beating the rival Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks 7-2.

In a game heard on KCII, the Demons scored single tallies in the first and second innings as Jessie Buchholz and Haylee Wilson came in to take an early 2-0 lead. Mid-Prairie cut that lead in half in the third when Anna Vilovchik came in on a Clarice Murphy RBI ground out. Washington again turned on the offense late, scoring once in the fifth when Hannah Anderson scampered around the bases, once in the sixth when Alexa Mitchell singled in Megan Mitchell and three times in the seventh for insurance with RBI from Buchholz and Kaitlyn Mitchell while Megan Mitchell, Morgan Brinning and Molly Sparks all scored. The Golden Hawks scored once in their half of the seventh when Jaselyn Robertson cracked a solo homer to left.

Sparks got the win in the circle going all seven, giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out one. Cassidy Rourke took the loss for Mid-Prairie going seven innings, giving up 14 hits and seven runs. At the plate the Demons were led by Buchholz with a four hit night, one run scored and RBI. Kaitlyn Mitchell added three hits and an RBI. Georgia Nisly was three for three for Mid-Prairie. With the win, Washington is now 15-13 on the year, with the loss the Golden Hawks fall to 7-16.
